Creative Composition - with Dr Dylan Rynhart
Creative Composition - with Dr Dylan Rynhart
Gain the skills to compose & workshop your music with musicians
Each Wednesday (6:30-8pm) the 11th of May, for 9 weeks
in the Centre for Creative practices, 15 Pembroke Street Lower, Dublin 2.
Now in its fourth year, this unique course is geared towards helping
composers achieve their potential, by providing them with the skills
to compose music for professional musicians.
Over the nine weeks, the course looks at various forms of music and
methods of composition, but is primarily participant led, meaning that
the focus is tailored to the aesthetics and talents of the participants.
The participants are given exercises through the term and their compositions
are workshopped so that they can get as much practical advice as possible.
At the end of the term, each participant will be offered the opportunity to write
music for a small group of musicians and have their compositions performed
and professionally recorded which they can use to promote their work.
This is a unique opportunity for any composer, one that shouldn't be missed.
While participants are not required to play an instrument, they do need to
be able to present their music to the class, either as a recording / mock-up
or in notation. A good understanding of musical notation is recommended.
A fee of €250 will cover all tuition and musicians fees for the term

Mouthpiece Album Available on-line
The New FUZZYLOGICENSEMBLE album "Mouthpiece" is now available for purchase on fuzzylogicensemble.com just goto:

Here's what the Irish Times said:
Ray Comiskey - The Irish Times
FUZZYLOGICENSEMBLE Mouthpiece ****
On this second CD by composer/ keyboardist Dylan Rynhart's Fuzzy Logic, his writing, though clearly by the same hand (six pieces are his, two by ensemble members Brian Wynne and Nick Roth), is an obvious advance on his fine debut. The voicings are richer and more varied and there's a particularly deft sense of proportion to the development of texture and counterpoint. Replacing cello, French horn and clarinet with tenor, soprano and electric bass has enhanced the ensemble, while solo options are increased not only by Joe O'Callaghan (guitar) and the brilliant Tom Arthurs (guesting on trumpet and flugelhorn), but also by Wynne (tenor) and Cathal Roche (soprano). And the complex ensembles, thanks to conductor Florian Ross, are among the best executed by an Irish jazz ensemble. Standout examples of a uniquely conceived project include Flip Shuffle, Dusty Time and The Difference between Light and Hard.
Thanks and enjoy the music !

She had taken one painting class, created one watercolour and so there were no more. When she died, she left the painting to them and it still hangs on their wall; they treasure it."

FUZZYLOGICENSEMBLE,Ireland's largest and longest running contemporary improvising ensembles, fashion arrangements with a quirky beauty and rich orchestral palette to create a jazz sound beyond the big-band tradition. With composer Dylan Rynhart at the helm on Hammond organ, the group have been making an impression on the Irish jazz scene for the past six years with their lyrical and innovative signature style.
Ireland's finest young musicians put Rynhart's quirky and evocative compositions through their paces with hallmark skill and tenacity in a line up which includes a large arsenal of instruments and personalities.
This concert, featuring international guest artists Florian Ross (Germany) and Tom Arthurs (UK), will premiere music from FUZZYLOGICENSEMBLE's latest album Mouthpiece, recorded in January of this year. Mouthpiece is an album made, as Rynhart says "to inspire others to make even the simplest sounds, just for the sheer joy it brings" inspired by a painting his grandmother created, her one and only painting, which lives on in his family home as a testament to the joy that art can bring to the observer and the listener, that creativity opens a door to the memory of moments, and that the creation of one piece of art can become a treasure like no other.

Composition Classes
Creative Music Composition
Learn to write the music you hear and have it performed
(A unique class in composition, where your pieces are performed live at the end of the term)
This is a very special class offering participants the opportunity to learn about many different kinds of composers and their techniques, in a practical way. In this class we will look at many different styles and genres of music, and their different considerations. We will also look at practical music theory and the specifics of writing music for acoustic instruments and objects you might find lying around your house!
At the end of the term each class member will be given the opportunity to write music for a small group of professional musicians and have their music performed and recorded. This is a unique opportunity for any aspiring composer and one that shouldn't be missed.
While participants are not required to play an instrument, access to a keyboard instrument is recommended. A basic understanding of musical notation is required.
You can sign-up for this class by contacting Dylan here
